CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter) was organized in the early 1980’s to respond to the huge unmet need for emergency shelter for homeless adults in the cold winter months. With its name derived from the Latin word for charity, today CARITAS is the largest emergency shelter program in our community. More than 170 faith communities provide over 37,000 nights of shelter. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
We will be housing approximately 34 homeless men during this week in our Social Hall. In addition to providing a place to sleep, we furnish three meals per day.
We need you to:
- Stay overnight.
- Serve as early evening hosts from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. each evening.
- Prepare meals (evening dinners and bag lunches).
- Provide breakfast foods.
- Provide toiletry kits.
- Provide money for the purchase of paper products, utensils, snacks and laundry detergent.
- Provide bottled water, coffee and soft drinks.
- Help set up and take down cots both Saturdays.
- Provide services such as haircuts and medical and/or dental services.
There are signup sheets in the hall next to the Church Library. Please look over this list and volunteer. We need to determine, as soon as possible, how many volunteers and how much money will be committed to this
