Churches raise $9,390 for India
Richmond Times-Dispatch April 30 2005 |
Four North Side churches have raised $9,390 to help tsunami victims on the southeast coast of India.
In the letter, the Rev. Michael Peppin, pastor of Emmanuel Methodist Church and district superintendent in Vepery, wrote that some churches and families were receiving relief, enabling them to rebuild. Other families and congregations whose homes or churches were destroyed have not been so fortunate, he wrote.
Two weeks ago, Battery Park Church along with Ginter Park United Methodist Church, Northminster Baptist Church and Ginter Park Baptist Church held the Tsunami Ecumenical Fund Raiser. The event included prayer, music and presentations of tsunami-recovery work in southern India.
Proceeds will be used to rebuild two churches in the Andaman Islands, provide clothing, blankets and supplies to 35 families, and redevelop basic kitchen facilities for people in the S.M. Nagar community.
Donations are still being accepted and can be sent to Battery Park Christian Church, 4201 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227, attention Tsunami Fund.
