MEET OUR PASTOR KORRI GARRETT
Beginning at an early age, Rev. Korri Garrett has had a passion for education, a mind for leadership, and a spirit for advocacy. In 1996, Korri received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Media Arts with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism from Hampton
University. Korri later served as Promotions Producer at WTVR-TV CBS 6 and WVIT-TV NBC-30 in Hartford, CT.

Moving into education, Korri was part of the Transition to Teaching program, a partnership between Newport News Public Schools and Old Dominion University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education with a focus on Literacy Education. Over the next several years, Korri taught English in Newport News Public Schools and Henrico County Public Schools, securing an endorsement in Gifted Education through the University of Virginia and an endorsement in Educational Leadership and Administration through George Washington University. Before moving back into the classroom, Korri served as the Coordinator for Multicultural Education and Graduation Coach, respectively, for Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools. She is currently in her 22nd year, educating the leaders and global citizens of tomorrow, serving as a Gifted and Talented teacher in Richmond Public Schools. In the community, Korri proudly served two terms as President of the Williamsburg Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Additionally, Korri served as Secretary of the York, James City, Williamsburg Branch NAACP, as well as Chair of the Communications, Press, and Publicity Committee for the Virginia State Conference, NAACP. Moreover, Korri served as the Chair of the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted. Finally, Korri currently serves as President-Elect of the Virginia Association for the Gifted.

In 2021, Korri accepted the call to ministry – the call to TEACH. Upon furtherintrospection, that call to teach was an anointing that was already on Korri’s life. The difference is that Korri believes God called her to a greater purpose in teaching, that is, to teach the Word of God more broadly to His people. Through trials and tribulations, Korri looks to Proverbs 3:5-6, which reminds us to trust in the Lord throughout life’s brightest and darkest hours. Korri served as Pastor of Oak Grove, Riverview, and Uzzell UMCs, as she was appointed as Lay Supply for three years. Korri is a graduate of the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in the Master of Christian Education and Master of Divinity programs. She is currently furthering her studies at Hampton University’s School of Religion in the Doctor of Ministry program in Pastoral Leadership and Congregational Development.

Rev. Korri Garrett resides in Richmond, VA. She is the daughter of the late Rev. Marshall and Jean Garrett and has an older sister, Paula.
